About the band…….

A Band Called Malice -The Premier British Tribute to THE JAM

A Band Called Malice stands as the UK's most authentic and celebrated tribute to the iconic mod rock band The Jam. Formed by seasoned musician Andy Coultas, the band meticulously recreates the energy, precision, and passion of Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton, and Rick Buckler's legendary performances. Their name, inspired by The Jam's 1982 number-one hit "A Town Called Malice," reflects their dedication to honouring the band's enduring legacy.

With explosive live shows that transport audiences back to the heyday of mod revival, A Band Called Malice delivers a setlist spanning all six of The Jam’s studio albums, encompassing songs from all six studio albums released by The Jam during their 1977-1982 heyday . Their performances typically include:

· Iconic hits: "Town Called Malice," "Start," "Going Underground," "The Eton Rifles," "That's Entertainment"

· Fan favourites: "Down in the Tubestation at Midnight," "Art School," "The Modern World," "David Watts"

· Deeper cuts: B-sides and album tracks rarely performed by other tributes, their repertoire captures the raw power and social commentary that defined The Jam’s music.

The band’s attention to detail extends to their equipment and instrumentation, including identical reproductions of Paul Weller’s Rickenbacker guitars, their stage presence, and wardrobe, effectively transporting audiences back to the heyday of The Jam's popularity ensuring a sonically and visually authentic experience. ABCM is renowned for their authentic sound reproduction, described as "frighteningly realistic"

Comprising accomplished musicians, including Andy Coultas (channelling Paul Weller’s vocals and guitar prowess), Warren Mee (a grade-eight distinguished drummer echoing Rick Buckler’s rhythm), and dual bassists Matt Barker and Chris Barr (alternating as Bruce Foxton), the band brings decades of collective experience to the stage. Their electrifying performances have earned them critical acclaim, including finalist status in the National Tribute Awards and the prestigious O2 Academy network tour for 2024–2026—a honour no other Jam tribute has achieved.

Ideal for major venues, festivals, and corporate events, A Band Called Malice has garnered rave reviews for their "frighteningly realistic" shows. As fans have noted, "Close your eyes, and you’re there!". With the passing of Rick Buckler in 2025, their role in preserving The Jam’s live legacy has never been more vital.

Big thanks to Scott Phillips for the glowing feedback/recommendation!!  March 2025

Now that’s brought a big smile to our faces !!

Scott’s comment;

Edinburgh, 1977. As a snotty-nosed schoolboy drummer, my parents purchased ‘In The City’ single for me - I was hooked!  The raw power and emotion that filled my ears - the start of a lifelong love affair with The Jam. My friends and I eagerly awaited the release of every new single and album, playing them constantly and watching how this incredible band crossed the boundaries of Punk, Mod, Skinhead and most other sub-cultures.
1982, Weller announced he was splitting The Jam - we were devastated! No more The Jam!!! Still, we had a legacy of music to continue listening to.
40+ years later, and most of us have ‘All grown up, and we’ve got our own lives, and the values that we had once upon a time’.
Fast forward to Edinburgh, Bannermans 2024 -I was made aware of ABCM - ok I thought, I’ll go see them……Ooft! Blown away would be an understatement! The precision, attention to detail, and the overall sound was frighteningly realistic!!! I’ve seen a few Jam tribute bands over the years, and utmost respect to them all, because trying to emulate another bands songs is actually really difficult!
ABCM in my opinion are as good as seeing The Jam live (which I have). Close your eyes, and you’re there! What ABCM ‘do’ is nothing short of inspired!!
From ALL Jam fans, thankyou A Band Called Malice, for doing what you do, and keeping the legacy alive with integrity, respect and diligence.
And for us ‘older’ fans, for giving us the opportunity to be a tourist of our youths, albeit for a couple of hours at a gig.
Sadly, with the passing of Rick, there is never gonna be a Jam reunion, so please continue doing what you do guys!!!!
