At what age did you start playing guitar? 

I first picked up guitar after leaving school aged 16.

Musical influences

I love all types music, but the genres that had the most influence on me were punk, two-tone, ska, new wave, rock, 60’s. My biggest influences were the likes of guitarists Chuck Berry, Alvin Lee and guitar heroes of the day such as Gary Moore and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top 

What attracted you to The Jam?

It’s a long time ago now but whilst playing in a new wave/punk band, we added Down in The Tubestation to our set , I loved it and the people seemed to love it!! Overtime, we just kept adding more and more Jam tracks and The Jam really grew on me very quickly!! It got to the point where I liked them so much, I went out and bought every Jam related thing I could get my hands on and I’ve never looked back!!

What other bands have you been in? 

You’ll never have heard of any of these, but always good to hear a few band names……..The Felix Moose-Grass Rock Extravaganza, Travesty, Scavenger, Wild Child, Moose, Dirty Molly and The Jamd 

Where did you grow up / live? 

I was born in God’s Country…. A.K.A Sheffield….. however, I lived in Lincolnshire for a long period and have since moved to the rolling hills, mountains and beautiful lakes of Cumbria and I’m very happy there…… although it’s always a long drive to gigs nowadays!!!

What’s your greatest Jam memory? 

Unfortunately I never got to see The Jam play live. If only I could turn back time LOL. I’ve met Bruce and Rick backstage on several occasions after having watched them perform as The Gift and later as FTJ. I’ve yet to meet Paul !!

How did you end up in Band Called Malice?

It’s a long story…….. but I think I’ve answered it in part above. The set list of the new wave punk band evolved into a Jam tribute. However, all good things (and some not so good) come to an end and I eventually left and formed a new Jam Tribute. I’d always liked the name A Band Called Malice, and for the life of me, I couldn’t fathom out why no one else had come up with it before…….. and this is where were at!!

Did u know any of your band mates before joining? 

I didn’t. We were a completely new line up!! The band was formed on recommendations and trials and whilst a few members came and went early doors, I feel we now have an amazing line up!!

Do u have any memorable / funny stories from your time in A Band Called Malice

My memories of ABCM grow bigger and better with every gig. I love everyone involved with the band and think every member of team malice are superb in their roles. However, when it comes to funny stories…… I suppose most of them revolve around me falling on my backside when kicking a leg out, which I’ve done numerous times, much to the amusement of the band!! I’ve always bounced back though!! I also remember splitting the crotch on my trousers on one occasion, which the band knew about, but I managed to hide it from the audience!! Unfortunately for Warren, being at the back, he had to deal with it!!

What’s your most memorable musical achievement / highlight

Supporting The Steve Craddock band as a solo artist a few years ago, I felt very privileged to be given that opportunity. Playing to big crowds at Fake Festivals, Butlins, Warner, Glastonbarry Glastonbudget and other festivals, but the best achievement for me personally has to be requested to play at the O2 academy gigs. We also play nationwide, including Scotland ,Wales and occasionally Ireland. Add to that the band getting endorsement from Lambretta clothing!! These are the things I used to dream about and to play in front of such big audiences across the UK is a massive buzz!!!
